We are so excited that you are submitting a self-tape for ‘Smile’ at J2 Spotlight Musical Theater Company. Thank you in advance for your hard work and preparation.

From the creators of Little Shop of Horrors and A Chorus Line, Smile follows the optimistic hopefuls of The 1985 Young American Miss Pageant in Santa Rosa, California as they navigate the fine line between innocent teenager and cynical pageant contestant. The show’s tuneful score by Howard Ashman and Marvin Hamlisch features the hits “Disneyland,” “In Our Hands,” and “Typical High School Senior.”
We are NOT having in person auditions for this, we are casting directly from your self tape submissions. Also, please note – you must be local to NYC for this contract. This company doesn’t provide housing.
For this self-tape please prepare:
-Begin your submission with a Slate: Name, Height, Location.
-16 Bars of your own song cut in the style of the show.
-The FULL material for your requested role found in the folders below – sides and song cuts (if applicable) – EVERYTHING!
-Include a dance/movement reel if you have one.
Note: We are considering both teenagers and adults to play teenagers for all of the pageant contestant tracks. If under the age of 18, please let us know in your slate.
